Fleshing Out a Theory

The other night, I was up at a regular hang out spot with a friend of mine who, in terms of personality, is my polar opposite. We were having a surprisingly complex conversation about our views and outlooks on life and approaches to nearly everything relevant in our personal lives.

During that conversation, I had sort of a self-realization.

What I had realized was that nearly every view in my life consists of an alignment on an x,y style graph.

For example: Imagine one's outlook as one variable, and then one's direction of that outlook as the other variable.

The way I'm picturing it in my mind looks something like this:

You've got the positive and kind; Nice with a good outlook. The cheery types.
There's positive and unkind; Good outlook, but assholes. The arrogant types.
Negative and unkind; Assholes with a glum outlook. The angry types.
And negative and kind; Pessimistic, but kind about it. The hesitant types.

Piping the output of that equation, we have an output that in itself becomes another graph of its own we can map out; confidence in relation to outlook.

And at this point, we can also apply the 'For every action, an equal and opposite reaction" rule.

Even just looking at something as vague as that graph, any of those fields, left unchecked, creates an imbalance. There must always be something to balance action with reaction.

One thing that I had really pulled from reading the Teachings of Buddha and Tao Te Ching was that balance is essential in EVERYTHING when you really, really think about it.

I can not stress enough how much just being able to play devil's advocate with yourself can help you understand something better simply because you are seeing each and every side's perspective, giving you the whole picture.

Call it crazy or whatever... I think it's kind of enlightening haha
